GOLF TEAM COMPETES AT REGENTS INVITATIONAL

Golf Team Competes at Regents Invitational
On Monday, February 26, the SMCA golf team competed in the Regents Invitational at Jimmy Clay Golf Course. There were 14 boys teams (82 total players) and 4 girls teams (28 total players). In the girls division, Vicki Hernandez (‘27) earned another top-10 finish, ending tied for 10th place with a 107.

The boys team did not have the minimum 4 players available to submit a team score, so each player competed as an individual medalist with Beau Buehrle (‘24) finishing in solo 3rd place with a 4-over par 76. Sonny Sciantarelli (‘27) finished in 16th place with an 83, and Calvert Layne (‘25) finished 23rd with an 86.

We are happy to highlight the following email, sent from the Regents Athletic Director and tournament director after the tournament:

It was brought to my attention that Beau Buerhle was in contention to win the tournament today when he self-reported a scoring issue that ended up moving him to 3rd place. This shows an incredible amount of integrity, and the St. Michael's community should be proud of how he represented the school, his family, and himself.

The golf team has also been nominated and selected as the PGA of America TAPPS Golf Team of the Month for February. TAPPS has partnered with the PGA of America to shine a light on golf programs in the State of Texas with the PGA of America Golf Team of the Month Award.

The St. Michael’s team has displayed not only exceptional talent on the golf course but also sportsmanship on and off the course. The organization wants to honor the team by providing an opportunity to meet with the PGA of America via Zoom to hear more about pursuing a career in golf and the different opportunities that are available for golfers.
