St. Michael's athletes competed in the TAPPS Track and Field State Championship on Friday and Saturday, May 3rd and 4th at Panther Stadium in Hewitt, Texas. As the final meet of the track season, the TAPPS State Championship brings together the top-eight athletes or relay teams, four each from TAPPS North and South Regionals, to compete for the title of State Champion in each of the events. St. Michael's had 16 athletes attend the meet, eight boys and eight girls, who participated in seven events. While there were no state champions crowned this year, Cole Nguyen ('25) placed 2nd in the boys’ pole vault, despite being hampered by an injured foot. With the team being made up of a large number of underclassmen who will be returning athletes next year, the coaches are excited at the possibilities ahead and are expecting faster times, longer distances, higher heights, cumulating with more District and Regional victories and state championship qualifiers from the individual athletes and relays. ...

On Monday, April 29, the St. Michael's boys golf team competed in the 5A TAPPS Regional Championship in Fort Worth, TX. Very steady play allowed the team to finish in 3rd place, breaking the 300 stroke total for the 2nd time this year with a 299. This finish qualifies the team for the TAPPS State Championship, in Glen Rose this Monday and Tuesday. St. Michael's had two top-10 finishers, with Beau Buehrle ('24) leading the way with a 73 (1-over) to finish T-6th. Sonny Sciantarelli ('27) finished T-9th with a 74 (2-over). This is great momentum heading into our final event of the year as we make a serious run at the school's first ever golf State Championship. Viki Hernandez ('27) finished tied for 9th place for a top-10 finish and trip to Glen Rose to represent St. Michael's in the TAPPS State Championship. This has been quite a run for our lone girl golfer, finishing with yet another medal and making it to the State Championship as a freshman. The future is very bright for our girls program, so if you have a student who has played golf or is interested in getting into golf, please know she will have a great teammate in Viki. Best of luck to our boys team and Viki next week!...

On Monday, April 22nd the TAPPS 5A District 3 Championship was played at Shadow Glen Golf Course in Manor. As our representative for the girls team, Viki Hernandez ('27) finished in solo 2nd place to advance to the TAPPS 5A North Regional. A superb short game and steady play down the stretch allowed Viki to ease into punching her ticket to Regionals. Great job, Viki! On the boys team, the team was led by Sonny Sciantarelli ('27) with a calm and cool 75 (+3), which earned him 5th place medalist. While Sonny's day went fairly smooth, the team in general had a wild ride. A bumpy start began to settle down about midway through the round and the teams resiliency began to shine. As our players were finishing up on holes 16,17 an 18, a string of three birdies in a matter of five minutes solidified their spot in the TAPPS 5A North Regional next week in Fort Worth. Harrison Knight ('25) grinded out a 79 to finish as 7th place medalist, while Beau Buehrle ('24) finished in 8th. The team finished with a score of 319 – good enough to survive and advance. Calvert Layne ('25) and Nicholas Shilling ('25) also participated in the event this week. TAPPS 5A North Regional Championship is scheduled for Monday, April 29th at Hawks Creek Golf Course in Fort Worth....
